NUMBER OF STUDENTS ENROLLED IN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION CENTERS INCREASED BY 70% IN A MONTH

Amendment made in Vocational Education Law in December increased the number of students enrolled in the vocational education centers from 159 thousand to 270 thousand with a 79% rise and turned them into centers of attraction for both students and employers.

Pursuant to the amendment in Vocational Education Law No. 3308, students enrolled in the vocational education centers are paid 1275 liras per month while studying. At the end of the first three years of their education, their salaries rose to 2125 liras. These wages are paid by the state. Moreover, all students are insured against occupational accidents and illnesses.

Employment rate of vocational education center graduates are high... Approximately 88 percent of graduates are employed. Amendment lifted age limit for enrolling in the centers.

The Ministry of National Education has prepared a public spot about vocational education centers which offer vocational education in 181 different fields, salary equivalent to 30% percent of the minimum wage for 9th, 10th and 11th grade students and salary equivalent to 50% of minimum wage for 12th grade students as well as insurance against occupational accidents and illnesses, diploma and opportunity to establish a workplace.

On the other hand, provincial directors of national education in 81 cities of the country continue to provide counseling services about the centers. The Ministry also established vocational education centers in all Organized Industrial Zones. The goal is to enroll 1 million students in vocational education centers until the end of 2022.

"Advantages offered after the amendment resulted in high enrollment figures. Within a month, the number of students enrolled in these centers increased by 70 percent. The amendment initiated a new period in human resources and reinforcement of vocational education centers.  I believe that these centers will provide an important contribution to increasing the quality of human resources and decreasing young unemployment rates," said Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer.
