MINISTRY OF NATIONAL EDUCATION STARTS PREPARATIOINS FOR PROGRESS IN THE FOR INTERNATIONAL READING LITERACY STUDY (PIRLS)

The Ministry of National Education has stated the preparations for PIRSL 2021 student success research. Within this context, the first contact meeting was held in Gaziantep. Deputy Minister of National Education Mahmut Özer, Director General for Measurement, Assessment and Examination Services Sadri Şensoy, Provincial Director of National Education Yasin Tepe, school administrators and teachers attended the meeting.

Özer said the studies aiming at monitoring the success of students provideS important feedback in terms of assessment of performance of the education system adding: "Our Ministry focuses on improvements in the systems according to the data obtained by regularly monitoring the performance of the education system. Within this framework, we have completed research about the Turkish, mathematics and science knowledge of 4th, 7th and 10th grade students. Similarly, we have carried out an assessment study for evaluating the performance of support and improvement courses. Our purpose is to take required remedial measures. In addition to this study, we are attending international student success researches such as the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) and the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMMS).  Turkey has achieved an important success in both of these studies. We will attend PIRSL after two decades and we will have the opportunity to learn literacy skills of our students."

Deputy Minister Özer went on to say: "PIRLS 2021 will be implemented between June 14 and 20 2021 according to the course of the pandemic. Approximately 7 thousand 4th grade students studying in 192 schools in 48 cities of the country will attend the research. Directorate General for Measurement, Assessment and Examination Services will organize contact meetings in related cities. I would like to thank Director General for Measurement, Assessment and Examination Services Sadri Şensoy, his colleagues, measurement and assessment center coordinators, school administrators and teachers for their support to the preparations.
